Product Description

Owatrol Antigliss Antislip is an easy to apply solvent based premixed anti slip coating that offers a slip-resistant finish for wooden steps, ramps, decking etc.

Best Uses

Owatrol Antislip also know as Antigliss has been specially formulated to provide a slip resistant finish to timber decking and other wooded structures such as steps. Owatrol Antislip is a satin finish solvent based coating that offers excellent UV and weather resistance and is suitable for application to properly prepared timber to help prevent the timber from greying.

Owatrol Antigliss Antislip contains polypropylene wax microbeads (particle size 100 microns) that provide an anti-slip surface for pedestrian traffic and a skid resistant surface for wheeled traffic to prevent the risk of falling or skidding in areas with a severe slip or skid hazard. Producing a more evenly textured surface than conventional anti-slip coatings where grit is sprinkled in to the wet finish, Owatrol Antigliss Antislip penetrates into and bonds with the wood fibres to provide a finely textured, flexible, long lasting anti-slip satin finish.

Application

Before starting, test colour choice on a small area. Allow to dry to determine final colour. Cover everything you do not wish to coat, including plants and shrubs.
Do not apply in direct sunlight or to hot wood. Wood surfaces in direct sunlight can reach temperatures of 50°C even when the air temperature is 30°C. Do not apply if cold and/or wet weather is expected within 24 hours. Always work the entire length of a board or piece of wood to a logical break. Never stop application in the middle of a board or piece of wood. After spray application, always back-brush or back-roll to improve penetration and uniformity of coverage. Ensure wood is dry – max 18 % moisture content.

General Directions:
Surfaces must be clean, dry and free of dirt, grease, grime, mildew and previous coatings. Treat mildew with a 50/50 bleach/water solution. Scrub solution on to surface and allow to stand for 10-15 minutes; rinse thoroughly. After cleaning and/or stripping, allow wood to dry 2-3 good drying days or until it has reached a moisture content of 18 % or less before applying finish.

Owatrol Antislip (Antigliss) can only be applied to bare wood surfaces or weathered surfaces previously finished with Owatrol Antislip (Antigliss). ALL other finishes MUST be completely and thoroughly removed. If necessary sand surface after cleaning and/or stripping (80 grit paper). New planed, smooth wood has a hard shiny surface called mill glaze that prevents maximum penetration and bonding of any finish; this should be removed prior to application in order to ensure proper performance of the finish.

New wood surfaces:
Treat with Owatrol Aquanett or dilute Owatrol Prepdeck, neutralise with Owatrol Net-Trol, alternatively mechanically or manually abrade surface with 80 grit paper. Clean off all loose wood particles. Test wood for absorbency by sprinkling water on the surface. If water is absorbed rapidly, the surface is ready for finishing.

Untreated weathered woods:
Untreated wood surfaces that have weathered longer than 12 months should be thoroughly cleaned with undiluted Owatrol Net-Trol to ensure that all loose wood fibres, dirt and other surface contaminants are removed.

Previously treated surfaces (oiled):
All oils or sealers must be completely and thoroughly removed with Owatrol Aquanett or Owatrol Prepdeck and the stripped surface neutralised with Owatrol Net-Trol.

Previously treated surfaces (paint, stain, varnish,...):
All previous coatings must be completely and thoroughly removed.

Solvent (oil or alkyd based finishes): Strip with Owatrol Dilunett, neutralise with Owatrol Net-Trol.

Acrylic finishes (Water-based): Strip with Owatrol Prepdeck, neutralise with Owatrol Net-Trol.

Other finishes i.e. 2 pack epoxies, urethanes,...: Strip with Owatrol CDKP 90, neutralise surface with a suitable solvent - Acetone, White Spirits, Methylated Spirits...

Note: Hardwoods inc’ exotic hardwoods and woods rich in tannins i.e. Cedar, Douglas Fir, Teak, Ipe, Iroko…. may darken with Owatrol AquanettOwatrol Prepdeck and Owatrol Dilunett, neutralising with Owatrol Net-Trol immediately after rinsing will lighten and restore the woods colour.
