Application
Begin preparing the surface by removing all loose material, either by brush or with compressed air. Remove any standing water (a small amount of residual moisture in the base of the pothole is acceptable). For a permanent repair ensure the pot hole is dry prior to application. There is no need to cut back!
Follow the instructions to mix the components together and then pour into the pothole. Level out and smooth with a trowel. Once complete immeditaely scatter the 2kg bag of quartz and then allow to fully cure.
Benefits of Using Resin-Based Systems over Bitumen Based Systems:
1. Faster Curing & Less Downtime
- Resin: Many resin-based systems cure in minutes to a few hours, even in cold or wet conditions, allowing roads or car parks to reopen quickly.
- Bitumen: Often requires longer cooling/setting times, and in cold or damp weather, this can be significantly extended.
2. Superior Adhesion
- Resin: Bonds strongly to concrete, asphalt, and even damp surfaces — ideal when the repair area can’t be completely dried.
- Bitumen: Can struggle to bond well if the surface is wet, dusty, or contaminated with oil.
3. Durability & Load Resistance
- Resin: More resistant to deformation under heavy loads, so less rutting or shoving under traffic. Often more resistant to freeze–thaw cycles.
- Bitumen: Softer under high temperatures and can deform under sustained heavy traffic loads.
4. Chemical & Weather Resistance
- Resin: Often resistant to oils, fuels, and de-icing salts, which can extend lifespan in industrial or high use environments.
- Bitumen: Susceptible to softening with oil/fuel spills and gradual weather oxidation.
5. All-Weather Installation
- Resin: Can often be installed in sub-zero or wet conditions without major performance loss
- Bitumen: Prefers dry, warmer conditions for optimal performance.
6. Reduced Maintenance Frequency
- Resin: Longer service life means fewer repeat repairs, which saves money and reduces disruption.
- Bitumen: Cheaper initially but may need more frequent patching or replacement.
7. Minimal Shrinkage & Cracking
- Resin: Cures without significant shrinkage, reducing the risk of gaps forming at the repair edges.
- Bitumen: Can shrink and crack over time as volatiles evaporate.
