Product Description

Please note, this product is now discontinued. See Rustoleum 5500 as a potential alternative.

Axalta Epicol SF Solvent Free Epoxy is a two pack solvent free epoxy, for steelwork in contact with potable water and for use as a floor coating. WRAS Approved 1711554.

Best Uses

Axalta Epicol SF Solvent Free Epoxy is formulated for use for steel valves, pipes, storage tanks and fittings in the water industry for contact with potable water. Also used as a self-levelling solvent free floor coating. WRAS approved.

Application

All surfaces to be coated should be dry and cleaned as necessary to remove all oil, grease, salts, weld flux or other contamination. Where necessary, remove weld spatter and grind smooth all sharp edges and weld seams.

For Steel: blast clean to Sa2½ (ISO 8501-1:2007), surface profile 50-75 microns
For Concrete floors: this coating needs to be applied over a suitably prepared and sealed substrate. Please consult our technical team for advice.

Unless twin-feed spray equipment is being used, this material must be mixed thoroughly by using a mechanical mixer (with side scraper) before use. Add hardener in the correct proportions and mix thoroughly for a minimum of 2 minutes. Mix the material just before use, and consider the area to be coated and pot life of the material when deciding how many units are required. Note: when using as a floor coating, do not scrape or pour out remaining residues of mixed material from the bottom and sides of the container onto the floor, as this material may be incompletely mixed and cause ‘soft spots’ in the applied floor coating. It is recommended that all material is stored at a temperature of approximately 20ºC for at least 24 hours prior to use, to aid mixing and application.

Airless Spray: a 60:1 pump or twin-feed equipment is recommended. Output fluid pressure at tip 3000-3500 psi, Tip Size: 21-27 thou (0.53-0.68mm)
Brush and roller should only be used for touch-up of small areas, as film build may not be achieved
For use as a self-levelling floor coating: pour out the mixed product onto the primed floor and spread with a suitable trowel. Level with a mohair or felt roller, wearing spiked shoes to walk across the wet coating.
