Product Description

Centrecoat Tactile GRP Pavers are the smarter alternative to installing tactile blister paving at pedestrian crossings. These paving slabs are ideal as disability legislation requires local authorities to consider the mobility needs of the blind and visually impaired.

Best Uses

Tactile flooring is used to guide and inform the visually impaired. It is intended to warn of potential hazards for the visually impaired. In the pedestrian environment, visually impaired people will seek out and use these floor surfaces. Each type of tactile flooring has been designed and developed for a specific use. The advantage of surface mounted tiles is that there is no need for excavation hence, any disruption is minimized.

Centrecoat Tactile GRP Pavers are ideal for:

  • Side road crossings;
  • Busy vehicle crossovers such as supermarkets or fuel stations;
  • In conjunction with pedestrian refuges:
  • With flat topped road humps when used as road crossing points;
  • Traffic signal controlled junctions with no pedestrian phase (where studs are used to indicate a road crossing Point).

Centrecoat Tactile GRP Paving System is available in blister and corduroy patterns.

In-line Blister Tactile Flooring is designed to provide a warning to visually impaired people who, in the absence of a kerb upstand less than 25mm high, would find it difficult to differentiate between where the footway ends and the carriageway begins. The surface is, therefore, an essential safety feature for this group of road users at pedestrian crossing points, where the footway is flush with the carriageway to enable wheelchair users to cross unimpeded.

Off-set Blister Tactile Flooring comprises flat topped domes set in evenly spaced rows parallel to the direction of travel along the platform. The offset of the domes indicates the direction of travel to the train. Used adjacent to safe carriageway crossings, the surface can be any colour other than red, but should provide a good contrast with the surrounding area to assist partially sighted people.

Corduroy Tactile Flooring is used to warn visually impaired people of the presence of specific hazards; steps, level crossings or the approach to on-street light rapid transport (LRT) platforms. It is also used where a footway joins a shared route; essentially, it conveys the message, "hazard proceed with caution."

Application

Centrecoat Tactile GRP Pavers can be fixed to existing surfaces without the need for time consuming and costly excavation. Tactile Grip Paving are 400mm x 400mm by 10mm thick. Centrecoat Tactile GRP Pavers tiles are ideal for meeting the new Disability Discrimination Act legislation and current Building Regulation requirements. They are typically installed using adhesive and or bolts depending on the substrate and environment.
