Sherwin Williams Zinc Clad J984 - Formerly Leighs Epigrip J984 is a 2 pack epoxy zinc rich anti corrosive primer for the protection of steel surfaces.

Best Uses

Zinc Clad J984 is best suited for the anti-corrosive protection of steel surfaces prepared by abrasive blast cleaning. Also may be used as a repair primer for galvanised surfaces

Application

Blast clean to Sa2½ BS EN ISO 8501-1:2007. Average surface profile in the range 50-75 microns. Ensure surfaces to be coated are dry and free from all visible traces of surface contamination. For repair of galvanizing, for small areas, abrade the surface to a minimum standard of St3 per BS EN ISO 8501-1:2007, feathering off the edges of intact galvanizing surrounding such areas, and then brush apply the primer. For large areas it is recommended that the surface is flash blasted and the primer applied by the desired method.Application is recommended via airless spray or brush for small areas or touch ups. Recommended cleanser / thinner No5. Indefinitely overcoatable with epoxy systems provided a minimum of 50 microns DFT is obtained. Do not overcoat with paints containing saponifiable resins such as oleo-resinous or alkyd based paints unless a non-saponifi able resin based barrier coat has been applied first.
