Product Description

Owatrol CIP Corrosive Inhibiting Primer is an anti-corrosive primer that penetrates metal and stops rust to steel structures, motor vehicles, civil engineering and marine equipment, railings, gates and nautical ballast tanks.

Owatrol CIP Corrosive Inhibiting Primer (formally RLS) is an anti-corrosive primer that possesses the penetrating properties associated with Owatrol Oil. Additionally Owatrol CIP has the added benefit that it may be overcoated with any coating, without the risk of it dissolving.

Best Uses

Owatrol CIP Corrosive Inhibiting Primer (Corrosive Inhibiting Primer) is an anti-corrosive primer that possesses the penetrating properties of Owatrol Oil with the added benefit that it may be overcoated with any coating without the risk of it dissolving. Owatrol CIP Corrosive Inhibiting Primer stabilises the surface penetrating deep into the substrate, driving out excess moisture and air to form a solid stable layer.

With Owatrol CIP Corrosive Inhibiting Primer, sand or shot-blasted surfaces do not require immediate priming; a light rust coating will not affect its performance or the final result.

Ideal for:

  • Interior and exterior use
  • Horizontal and vertical surfaces
  • New and rusted surfaces - Ferrous and non-ferrous metals
  • Steel superstructures, motor vehicles
  • Civil engineering and marine equipment
  • Railings, gates
  • Nautical ballast tanks

Application

Surfaces must be clean, dry and free from oil, grease and other surface contaminants. Remove all mill scale; loose and flaking rust and old paint back to a sound surface and edge. Feather in any sharp edges. Surfaces exposed to chemicals (acids, alkalis or salt deposits) should be washed using copious amounts of water or steam cleaned. Severely contaminated surfaces should be cleaned using an appropriate solvent.

Stir well before and during use. Do not thin.

New surfaces:
Prime with 1 coat of Owatrol CIP Corrosive Inhibiting Primer and allow to dry. For surfaces subject to aggressive climatic conditions apply 2 priming coats.

Clean, lightly rusted or new unpainted rusty steel:
Apply 2 coats of Owatrol CIP Corrosive Inhibiting Primer allowing drying time between coats.

Old severely rusted surfaces:
Apply 3 coats of Owatrol CIP Corrosive Inhibiting Primer allowing drying time between coats. OR Apply wet on wet applications of Owatrol Oil until rust is fully saturated and allow to dry 24 hours. Apply 2 coats of Owatrol CIP Corrosive Inhibiting Primer allowing drying time between coats.

Previously coated surfaces:
Spot prime all exposed metal with 2 coats of Owatrol CIP Corrosive Inhibiting Primer allowing drying time between coats Apply 3rd coat over entire area and allow to dry.

Surface and Environment

Owatrol CIP (Corrosive Inhibiting Primer) is suitable for use in interior or exterior environments on a variety of surfaces/substrates. Promain would recommend that it is ideally suited for metal but Owatrol CIP can also be used on brickwork or wood.

Examples of uses for Owatrol CIP include: steel structures, motor vehicles, civil engineering and marine equipment, railings, gates and nautical ballast tanks.
