Product Description

PPG Dimetcote 9 is a two component moisture curing zinc (ethyl) silicate primer coating with a high zinc content for structural steel.

PPG Dimetcote 9 (formerly SigmaZinc 170 and Ameron Sigmazinc 9) is a two component moisture curing zinc (ethyl) silicate primer with a high zinc content, designed to provide a protective coating to structural steel. Once applied, this product dries, to form a grey, flat finish that offers excellent resistance in varying conditions. Complies with the compositional requirements of SSPC Paint 20, Level 1.

Best Uses

PPG Dimetcote 9 works using a galvanic action that works to eliminate sub film corrosion and is suitably used as a system primer in various paint systems based on unsaponifiable binders. Due to its toughness and strong nature, Dimetcote 9 can withstand impact and high levels of abrasion.

  • Can withstand substrate temperatures from –90°C (–130°F) up to 400°C (750°F), under normal atmospheric exposure conditions
  • When suitably topcoated provides excellent corrosion protection for steel substrates up to 540°C (1000°F)
  • Can withstand service temperatures up to 650°C (1200°F) when topcoated with PPG HI-TEMP 1027
  • Must not be exposed to alkaline (more than pH 9) or acidic (less than pH 5.5) liquids

Application

PPG Dimetcote 9 allows substrate temperature during application and curing down to -18°C (0°F) is acceptable; provided the substrate is free from ice and dry. Substrate temperature during application up to 55°C (131°F) is acceptable. Substrate temperature during application and curing should be at least 3°C (5°F) above dew point. Relative humidity during curing should be above 50%.

A theoretical coverage rate of 8.4m2 per litre for 75 microns DFT is expected when applied by brush, roller or spray.

Surface and Environment

PPG Dimetcote 9 (formerly SigmaZinc 170 and SigmaZinc 9) can be used internally or externally in extreme conditions and works to provide a solid anti corrosion protective coating to structural steel in an industrial or construction based environment as well as offering excellent abrasion and impact resistance to protect the surface.
