Centrecoat PVB Etching Primer is a fast drying primer used for increasing adhesion to surfaces such as zinc, steel, stainless steel, galvanised steel and aluminium.
Polyvinyl butyral (or PVB) is a resin mostly used for applications that require strong binding, optical clarity, adhesion to many surfaces, toughness and flexibility. It is prepared from polyvinyl alcohol by reaction with butyraldehyde.
This product is an excellent adhesion primer for metal containers, ducting and othr general metal work prior to applying a topcoat.
All surfaces must be dry. The temperature of the ambient air, surface or paint should not fall below +5ºC during application or drying. Relative humidity should not exceed 80 %. The surface temperature of the steel should remain at least 3ºC above the dew point. Ensure all oils, grease, salts and dirt are removed by appropriate means.
Steel surfaces: Blast clean to grade Sa2.5. If blast cleaning is not possible, phosphating is recommended for cold rolled steel to improve adhesion.
Zinc surfaces: Sweep blast clean with mineral abrasives, e.g. quartz sand, to an even roughness. If sweep blasting is not possible, the surface should be roughened by hand abrading or washed with an appropriate detergent.
Stainless steel: Roughen the surface by grinding or sweep blasting using mineral abrasives.
Aluminium surfaces: Sweep blast clean with non-metallic abrasives to an even roughness. If sweep blasting is not possible, the surface should be roughened by hand abrading or washed with an appropriate detergent. Apply using an air assisted sprayer. Overcoatable in a wide range of topcoats including single and two pack coatings.
