Product Description

Owatrol Marine Oil is a colourless, marine penetrating rust inhibitor and oil based paint additive for the stabilising of metal against rust.

Best Uses

Owatrol Marine Oil can be used for a number of uses including:

  • Ability to be used as a rust inhibitor by penetrating through rusted surfaces to the sound metal beneath to protect it from further rusting.
  • To enhance adhesion as a foundation for primers or finishing coats on metal as a bonding film
  • As a paint conditioner as an additive to oil based paints to give rust inhibiting properties, increase flow and workability, and improving viscosity for extreme weather application.

Ideal uses of Owatrol Marine Oil include the priming of galvanised surfaces with no need for weathering or pickling, preventing further damage in heavily rusted surfaces on hulls and tanks, improving paint flow when working in cold environments, preventing peeling paint on wood surfaces, protecting metal parts on wood surfaces hinges and latches or assuring better adhesion of finishes.

  • Rust inhibitor which penetrates deeply until it reaches the sound metal below
  • Drives out moisture and air, stabilising the rust and preventing it from reforming
  • Paint and wood stain additive for oil-based paints which improves the flow of paint and eliminates brush marks
  • Improves paint adhesion and prevents cracking and peeling
  • Improves uniformity and coverage of coat, up to 25% more
  • Eases application of finishes in difficult conditions

Application

Apply using brush, roller or airless sprayer. Do not apply in direct sunlight or on to hot surfaces.

As a PAINT CONDITIONER: Prepare surface as per instructions on the paint can. Remove all loose and flaking material. Treat any organic growth with fungicidal solution or a mix of 1 part water to 1 part chlorine bleach, rinse thoroughly and allow to dry.
As a RUST INHIBITOR: Surfaces must be clean, dry and free from oil, grease and other surface contaminants. Remove all scale; loose and flaking rust and old paint back to a sound surface and edge. Feather in any sharp edges. Surfaces exposed to chemicals (acids, alkalis or salt deposits) should be washed using copious amounts of water or steam cleaned. Severely contaminated surfaces should be cleaned using an appropriate solvent. Do not remove firm rust. Do not clean metal back to a bright finish.

As this product has various uses, please refer to the data sheets for indepth application methods prior to use.
