The Globe Theatre London

The Globe Theatre was a theatre in London associated with William Shakespeare. It was built in 1599 by Shakespeare’s playing company, the Lord Chamberlain’s Men, on land owned by Thomas Brend and inherited by his son, Nicholas Brend and grandson Sir Matthew Brend, and was destroyed by fire on 29 June 1613. A second Globe Theatre was built on the same site by June 1614 and closed in 1642.

A modern reconstruction of the Globe, named “Shakespeare’s Globe”, opened in 1997 approximately 750 feet (230m) from the site of the original theatre. From 1909, the current Gielgud Theatre was called “Globe Theatre”. It had a rename in 1994.

Promain’s Paint Specification For The Globe

Promain often receive phone calls from people looking for floor paint and it’s our aim to make sure they purchase the correct paint for the project they are working on.  A recent phone call from the Globe Theatre in London was an enquiry for floor paint. After a discussion, we ascertained that the floor that required painting was in fact in a basement. It was not going to be subject to heavy traffic. The floor had an existing coating. The current staff were not sure what the existing type of paint was. All floor paints will require cleaning before you apply a new coat of paint. For this we would recommend a product such as ND14 from Rustoleum or the Centrecoat R09 Heavy Duty Cleaner.

As the floor that required painting was in an area where ventilation is poor the use of a strong or even heavy solvent was out of the question, with this information Promain specified the Bedec Acrylic Floor Paint as it is fast drying, offers good slip resistance, does not require a primer and as well as being suitable for concrete and wooden flooring and it has very low odour, and is a real eco-friendly product. Promain cannot stress the importance of having an anti slip floor surface. This helps towards the prevention of injuries to employees and general domestic users.
