Why choose stain block aerosol paint?
A stain blocking aerosol is useful where the affected area is relatively small and controlled spray application is more convenient than using a brush or roller.
Typical applications include:
-
isolated marks on walls and ceilings;
-
nicotine and smoke staining;
-
soot marks;
-
dry water stains;
-
grease and other compatible discolouration; and
-
small repairs before redecorating.
For widespread staining or full-room refurbishment, a liquid stain blocking primer will usually be more practical.
What stains can stain block spray cover?
Suitable stain block aerosols can isolate marks caused by nicotine, soot, grease, moisture staining and other compatible discolouration.
The underlying cause should always be dealt with first.
A brown water stain should be completely dry and the leak repaired before it is sealed. Smoke and nicotine deposits may also need thorough cleaning because contamination left on the surface can interfere with adhesion.
Visible mould or an active damp problem should not simply be sprayed over. Deal with the source of moisture, clean the affected area correctly and allow the surface to dry before applying a stain blocker.
Rust-Oleum Hard Hat 2990 Stain Blocking Aerosol Spray
Promain supplies Rust-Oleum Hard Hat 2990 for localised stain blocking on suitable interior surfaces.
The matt white aerosol can be used on substrates including plaster, concrete, wood and existing paint, subject to correct preparation and product compatibility.
Its aerosol format makes it particularly useful where only a relatively small section of wall or ceiling needs to be treated before repainting.
Always check the current technical data sheet for coverage, drying time and overcoating requirements before use.
How to prepare and apply stain block aerosol paint
The surface should be clean, dry and sound before application.
Remove loose material, dirt and grease, and deal with any ongoing leak or damp problem before applying the stain blocker.
Shake the aerosol thoroughly and apply it from the distance stated by the manufacturer. Build coverage using controlled passes rather than trying to hide the stain with one heavy wet coat.
Where additional coverage is required, apply another coat only in accordance with the product instructions.
Allow the stain blocker to dry for the specified period before applying a compatible emulsion or decorative topcoat.
On ceilings and other overhead surfaces, protect surrounding areas from overspray and keep the aerosol moving to avoid excessive build or runs.
Aerosol stain blocker or conventional primer?
Aerosol stain blockers are well suited to small, isolated marks.
For large sections of staining, porous plaster or complete walls and ceilings, a conventional wall primer or liquid stain blocking product may offer better coverage and value.
You can also compare Promain's wider range of stain blocking primers where a brush- or roller-applied product is more appropriate.
