The Traditional Paint Company have been producing limewash for over 30 years to traditional recipes that date back many hundreds of years. The traditional limewash contains organic ingredients such as pigments and slaked lime produced from crushed limestone that has been burnt in kilns. This is unlike many companies that use hydrated lime. After this process, the mixture is combined with water to produce a lime putty. Used on historic and listed buildings that need to breathe, limewash has proved to be ideal as it offers around 96% breathability (almost 5 times more permeable that emulsion paint). This allows moisture to escape to the atmosphere rather than being trapped in the wall creating damp in the building. At the Traditional Paint Company all the limewash is blended by hand and thousands of colours available are produced by eye. If you require further information on exterior or interior limewash please call for further information.
