Product Description

Thermoguard Timbercoat Insulating Basecoat achieves EN Class B s1 d0 and complies to old Class O as part of a two-coat system for wood and woodbased boards with a Thermoguard intumescent paint system for wood.

Best Uses

Thermoguard Timbercoat Insulating Basecoat is suitable for wood protection against fire within a Thermoguard intumescent system for wood. Tintable to undercoat shades, this intumescent water-based base coat is part 1 in a system. The full system will achieve BS EN Class B s1 d0 fire rating for full control of flamespread, toxic smoke emission and flaming droplets on wood and boards.

How it works: In the event of a fire it expands, forming a heat-resistant char to insulate the surface. Overcoat with Thermoguard Dualcoat Smoke and Flame Retardant.

Application

All substrates must be clean and dry. Remove all possible surface contaminates such as grease, smoke residues, silicones etc. Seal water-stain risks with stain blocking sealer suitable to overcoat with water-based acrylic paints. Abrade hard or smooth surfaces with wetted 120 grit wet-or dry abrasive or dust extracting abrader. Rinse off slurry while still damp. When dry, remove any loose or suspect material back to firm edge. Fill and repair any damage to the substrate using a good quality remedial filler.

Apply one coat of Thermoguard Timbercoat Insulating Basecoat. Overcoat with one coat  Thermoguard Dualcoat Smoke and Flame Retardant. Apply at rate stated on can to protect the surface and enable issue of project Certificate.

Brush and Roller Application: Use woven short pile roller sleeve or synthetic brush. Best method to roll broad areas is to lay paint across an area then spread it vertically.

Spray Application: Pressure Pot & Gun conventional unit with small compressor: Ensure all traces of solvent flushed out Thin 5 > 10% with water to spray viscosity. Adjust fluid flow and air flow as normal for acrylic emulsion paint or Airless Graco 1500, 3500 or equivalent. 3/8” line, 30 mesh filter on machine, no filter in gun. 521 or 523, broad areas 621 or 623 tip.

Ensure coverage is applied as per can i.e., 25m2 can covers 25 square metres.
