Tikkurila Fontecryl SC-EF 50
Tikkurila Fontecryl SC-EF 50 is a one-component, fast-drying, single-coat acrylic paint for the long-term protection of steel.
Best Uses
Tikkurila Fontecryl SC-EF 50 is ideal for the decorative protection of steel surfaces, including frameworks, machinery, and equipment. It contains special anti-corrosive pigments, fulfilling the requirements of corrosivity class C2-H, according to ISO 12944-6:2018. The product is water borne and free from zinc phosphates, making it more environmentally friendly than traditional water-borne corrosion-prevention paints. Tikkurila Fontecryl SC-EF 50 is also M1 approved for a healthy indoor environment and complies with the requirements of the Basta, BREEAM, and LEED green building certification
systems.
When used as a single-coat paint, Fontecryl SC-EF 50 is self priming and forms a thick, tight film with good abrasion and sagging resistance. It can be applied using airless, air assisted airless, or conventional spray equipment, and drying times can be shortened by applying the paint at higher temperatures.
Due to zinc phosphate free nature, Fontecryl SC-EF 50 is more environmentally friendly than traditional water-borne corrosion prevention paints.
- Can be used as a single-coat paint that forms a tight film with good abrasion resistance
- Excellent sagging resistance, thus enabling a thick paint film to be formed with one application
- Can be tinted to thousands of colours
- Suitable for product painting in metal industry and painting stations
- Drying times can be shortened by using higher temperatures
- Typical uses are e.g. steel frameworks, machinery and equipment
Application
Oil, grease, salts and dirt are removed by appropriate means. (ISO 12944-4). Steel surfaces: Blast clean to grade Sa2½. (ISO 8501-1) If blast cleaning is not possible, phosphating is recommended for cold rolled steel to improve adhesion. Primed surfaces: Oil, grease, salt and dirt are removed from the surface by appropriate means. Repair any damage to the primer coat. Note the overcoating time of primer. (ISO 12944-4)
Recommended Primers: Tikkurila Fontecryl AP, Tikkurila Fontecryl SC-MR 10
Recommended Topcoats: Tikkurila Fontecryl SC-EF 50
All surfaces must be clean, dry and free from contamination. The temperature of the ambient air, surface and paint should not fall below +15ºC during application and drying. Relative humidity of the air should be between 20–70%. The surface temperature of steel should remain at least 3°C above the dew point. Good ventilation and sufficient air movement is required in confined areas during application and drying.
Stir the product carefully before use.
For airless spraying, the product is thinned approximately 0–10%. Recommended nozzle tip is 0.011 inch – 0.015 inch and pressure 120–160 bar. Spray angle shall be chosen according to the shape of the object. For air-assisted airless spraying, the product is thinned approximately 0–10%. Recommended nozzle tip is 0.011 inch – 0.015 inch and pressure 120–140 bar. Atomising air pressure should be 2–3 bar. Spray angle shall be chosen according to the shape of the object. For conventional spraying, the product is thinned approximately 0–10%. Recommended nozzle tip is 1.6–2.0 mm and pressure 2–4 bar.
