Surfaces must be sound, clean, dry and free from all loose and flaking materials, dirt, grease or other surface contaminants. New or bare surfaces should be coated with a mist coat of Johnstone’s Flame Retardant Durable Matt thinned with up to 10% clean water. Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960’s paint surfaces as they may contain harmful lead.
