Product Description

Teknos Drywood Opti-Joint XP and XP II are joint sealers that have been specifically designed to keep wooden joints in joinery moisture tight and dry. It fills capillaries without foaming and is overcoatable with common water borne wood coatings.

Best Uses

Drywood Opti-Joint XP and XP II is best used as a glue for wooden windows frames and doors. It helps to keep the finished joinery in perfect condition by sealing end grains and preventing capillaries.

Opti-Joint XP and XP II stay flexible to absorb movements in the joint caused by swelling and shrinkage of post and sill during service life. Opti-Joint XP / XP II hardens due to moisture in the air.

Application

Always ensure that the surface is clean, dry and free from dust, oils and grease.

Check fitting of parts to be connected. If the fitting is below 0.2mm apply a minimum amount of material on one side. With a fitting of up to 1mm apply a large amount of Drywood Opti-Joint XP / XP II on one side.

With fittings between 1 and 2mm, apply a large amount on both sides to be connected. Opti-Joint XP/XPII should be applied and spread carefully over the entire surface, including the end grains.

Apply 400 to 1200ml/m² of Teknos Drywood Opti-Joint XP/XPII depending on the surface roughness and width of the fitting. Avoid applying an excess amount of material in order to prevent the splitting of the wood. This is especially important on areas where it cannot flow out, (dowel holes, for example). It is recommended to use PVAc glue for dowels. Prevent contact of both glues.

The maximum time between application and assembly is 15 minutes. Parts of the window frame should be connected at low pressure, preferably around 30bar, not exceeding 50bar.

Secure corner joints with a stainless steel nail or screw to prevent any movement before solidification of the Opti-Joint XP. In principle, dowel based joints do not require this, unless the size or weight of the joint is very high or if the fitting is very loose.

Coating System

Areas where joint sealer has been applied must always be protected with a topcoat treatment before being exposed to the weather.
