Mapei Silancolor Pittura is ideal for painting façades that are subject to critical weather conditions, and for outdoor walls where excellent breathability and high water-repellence is required, including those that are particularly exposed to the damaging action of algae, moulds and fungi. It provides substrates with long-lasting protection against such forms of microorganisms.

Silancolor Pittura combines the advantages of traditional mineral based paints with the ones of synthetic paints. Thanks to its particular formulation, the product does not alter the substrate's breathability and makes it highly water-repellent. Once applied, Silancolor Pittura forms a film with micropores sufficiently tight to repel water and at the same time wide enough to allow the passage of water vapour, thus maintaining the wall dry.

Silancolor Pittura perfectly adheres to all types of traditional render, de-humidifying renders and old well-adhering paints. The water-repellent properties of Silancolor Pittura protect the substrate from chemical aggression, making it very difficult for dirt to attach to the surface and making the substrate highly resistant to washings and durable over time. Silancolor Pittura is particularly resistant to the growth of algae, moulds and fungi. It may be used to paint walls that have already been damaged by such micro-organisms after removing them and cleaning the surface, or to prevent them forming by painting buildings (and structures) in areas where the particularly damp climate encourages their growth. A typical example of application is painting north-facing façades, which are particularly subjected to algae growth being the coldest and dampest walls of the building. Silancolor Pittura contains a product specifically formulated to control the growth of mould and algae.

Mapei Silancolor Pittura, used in combination with Mapei Silancolor Primer Plus or Mapei Silancolor Base Coat Plus and, where necessary, with Mapei Silancolor Cleaner Plus, forms a complete protection system against biological aggression and provides a defence for surfaces which remains durable over the years. Apart from protecting substrates, Silancolor Pittura forms an attractive finish and is available in a wide range of colours, obtained using the ColorMap® automatic tinting system.

Application

Preparation of the substrate
New surfaces requiring treatment, or areas patched up with repair mortar, must be well cured, perfectly clean, compact and dry. Remove all traces of oil and grease and parts which are not well bonded to the surface. Remove all traces of alga, mould and fungi, if already formed. Removal must be carried out when the surface is wet, after thoroughly washing the surface with Mapei Silancolor Cleaner Plus.

Mapei Silancolor Cleaner Plus must be applied on the whole surface using a low-pressure hand spray pump or a brush, leaving the product to react for a few minutes and letting it penetrate deep in the substrate. Then remove algae, moulds and fungi mechanically by brushing. Repeat application more than once and continuously apply Mapei Silancolor Cleaner Plus, allowing it to penetrate deep in the substrate. Seal any cracks if present and repair damaged areas before application. Fill pores in concrete and level off irregularities on the substrate using mortars and skim coats from MAPEI Building Line.

Carry out the suitable treatment on the dry and cured substrate, depending on specific needs: under normal conditions, use Mapei Silancolor Primer. In case of poor coverage paints, use Mapei Silancolor Base Coat pigmented base coat. In case of already contaminated surfaces or surfaces that are particularly exposed to the aggression of mould and algae, use Mapei Silancolor Primer Plus hygienising primer or, in case of poor coverage paints, the pigmented hygienising base coat Mapei Silancolor Base Coat Plus.

Preparation of the product
Dilute Silancolor Pittura with 15÷20% of water and mix using a drill at low-speed until completely blended. For the preparation of partial quantities, it is recommended to accurately stir Silancolor Pittura, as it is, before pouring the material from the original container.

Application of the product
Apply by brush, roller or spray over the dry coat of specified primer. The protection cycle requires two coats of Silancolor Pittura at 12-24 hours between coats, in normal conditions of humidity and temperature, and in any case when the previous layer is completely dry.
