Teknos Opal is formulated for application onto interior wood floors which are subjected to severe wear stress, for example, sports halls and public premises. Complies with DIN 18032-2 and EN 14904 friction requirements for sports halls. However, Teknos Opal is not suitable for the lacquering of diamond pine and chemically treated wood, e.g., smoked oak.
Teknos Opal is suitable for roller and brush application on parquet and wooden floors.
Teknos Opal should be applied with a steel trowel or lacquer roller or brush.
The wood surface must be dry, well sanded and free from sanding dust and other dirt.
Untreated and clean-sanded surfaces:
Fill the gaps with Teknos GAP parquet putty. Prime the surface with Teknos primer lacquer according to the instructions. Intersand, if necessary, with sandpaper or an abrasive net no150 after the first primer coat. Mix Teknos Opal hardener and Opal parquet lacquer together. Pour the hardener into the lacquer container. Shake the lacquer container vigorously for at least 30 seconds. Let the lacquer deaerate for 5–10 minutes.
Finish with 2–3 coats of Teknos Opal parquet lacquer using a lacquer roller or a paint brush along the grain of the wood. Do not close the container after the hardener has been added! (The reaction between the hardener and the lacquer produces small amounts of gas (carbon dioxide.)
Factory lacquered parquets or lacquered floors (maintenance lacquering):
Clean the floor thoroughly. Intersand gently by using sandpaper n:o 100–150. Remove the sanding dust with a vacuum cleaner and finish with a clean damp cloth.
Apply one coat of Teknos Opal parquet lacquer with a stainless steel trowel, and 1–2 coats with a lacquer roller or a brush. Note! If wax has been used for floor care, ensure the compatibility with the maintenance lacquer beforehand by consulting the producers. If the floor has previously been treated with oil, urethane or alkyd lacquer, the floor must be sanded to bare wood before lacquering.
If the second coat is not applied within 48 hours after the first coat, intersand the floor gently. Ensure that the previous lacquer coat has fully dried before applying a new one. Always stir lacquer thoroughly before use. Note! Some rubber types in carpets and anti-slip materials may contain plasticisers that can cause permanent damage to the surface and colour of the protective coat.
