Ultra Primer is best used as a primer and undercoat on exterior wooden surfaces. Areas of use include exterior cladding, weatherboards, railings, fences, doors, window frames etc.
The recommended application method for Tikkurila Ultra Primer is Airless spray or brush. It can be applied to either unpainted or previously painted surfaces.
For unpainted surfaces:
Remove all dirt, mould and loose material from the untreated or industrially primed wood surface. Wash dirty or mouldy surfaces with Tikkurila Homeenpoisto Mould Removal solution according to the instructions.
Use Tikkurila Priming Oil to prime the bare wood surfaces at the earliest possible stage of construction. Protect any metal parts that are prone to rust, such as nail heads, with Rostex Super Akva Metal Primer. Remove any loose resin from knots.
For previously painted surfaces:
Remove as much of the old paint as possible with a scraper, and then brush the surface clean with a wire brush. Wash dirty or mouldy surfaces with Tikkurila Homeenpoisto Mould Removal solution according to the instructions. Treat bare wood surfaces with Tikkurila priming oil. Patch paint with Ultra Primer.
Finishing painting is recommended to be performed as soon as possible after priming or after 10 months at the latest. Paint the surfaces with 1–2 coats of Ultra series house paint or Pika-Teho house paint, depending on the colour difference between the surface and the paint and the condition of the treated surface.
