The PPG HI-TEMP 222 G coating prevents corrosion in insulated and non-insulated services for carbon and austenitic stainless steel over a temperature range from –185°C to 232°C (–300°F to 450°F), even in thermal cycle and thermal shock conditions. Corrosion under insulation (CUI) is a major concern leading to risk and high costs for refineries, petrochemical facilities, power generating plants, and other industries. CUI can result in unplanned or accidental facility shut downs, which could result in loss of production, environmental issues, personal injuries, huge costs, and a facility owner’s reputation.
Designed to resist the severe ‘real world conditions’ of a continual and potentially harsh environment, PPG Hi-Temp 222G can withstand repeated thermal cyclic service and thermal shock, then immersion in boiling water, as well as long term continuous thermal service consistent with industry requirements. Given these conditions, the coating must survive and provide corrosion protection as needed.
Direct application to hot operating vessels and pipelines is a value added solution for users of PPG HI-TEMP 222 G. Chemical plants, refineries and power generating plants often hesitate to shut down for maintenance and postpone corrosion prevention activities. To deal with this situation, the PPG HI-TEMP 222 G coating can be applied to hot operating equipment with substrate surface application temperatures up to 204°C (400°F).
For non-insulated service, the PPG HI-TEMP 222 coating can be top coated with a variety of standard and custom colour topcoats, providing the ability for “hot pipes” to be colour coded, thereby meeting facility requirements. Specifically, the PPG HI-TEMP 500 VS (available in a wide range of colours), when applied over the PPG HI-TEMP 222 G coating, provides for superior colour stability for the approved temperature ranges.
Also, to be used as a primer with PPG HI-TEMP topcoats and with the PPG HI-TEMP 707 HB or PPG HI-TEMP 808 liquid insulation system.
For galvanised, steel and non ferrous metal all surfaces, carbon steel, all surfaces to be coated should be dry and free from all weld splatter, oil, grease and all other contaminants especially salts. Follow in depth product data sheet guidance depending on your substrate.
