Mapei Purtop Easy DW
Mapei Purtop Easy DW is formulated for the waterproofing storage tanks, canals, tunnels and hydraulic works in general which are not permanently exposed to UV rays.
Best Uses
Purtop Easy DW is a two-component liquid polyurethane waterproofing membrane. Once applied, in just a few hours Purtop Easy DW forms a seamless, elastic membrane with no overlaps and excellent crack-bridging properties suitable for contact with drinking water, in compliance with British Standards 6920 and with Italian Ministerial Decree 174/04. Purtop Easy DW is easy to apply by roller or trowel on horizontal, vertical and sloping surfaces.
Purtop Easy DW may be applied on concrete, cementitious screeds and metal.
- Forms an elastic and durable membrane
- Has a very high level of workability and is very easy to apply, including on vertical surfaces
- Does not require any reinforcement
Application
Preparation of the substrate
All substrates, whether new or old, must be solid, clean, dry and free of all traces of oil, grease, old paint, rust, mould and any other material which could affect adhesion.
Application on concrete substrates and cementitious screeds
Surfaces must be prepared according to specification by sand-blasting, shot-blasting, scarifying, bush hammering or other methods, depending on which type of substrate the product is to be applied. Then treat the substrate with a suitable primer as follows. Hollows, cavities and detached portions in the substrate must be repaired with suitable products from the Mapegrout and Planitop ranges. Choose the most suitable product according to the thickness to be repaired, the time available and the operating conditions on site.
After preparing the substrate, apply Primer SN two-component, fillerized epoxy primer with a trowel or airless spray and then broadcast the surface while still wet with Mapei Quartz 0.5. If the level of residual humidity in the substrate is higher than 4% and it is not possible to wait until it drops to a lower value, apply two or more coats of Triblock P three-component epoxy-cementitious primer, depending on the condition of the substrate, until the pores in the substrate are completely sealed. When the primer has cured sufficiently (3-7 days) apply a coat of epoxy primer (such as Primer SN or Mapecoat I 600 W); contact our technical team for further details.
Application on metal surfaces
Check the state of the substrate and dry sand-blast the surface to grade SA 2½ (according to Swedish Standards). If it is not possible to dry sand-blast the substrate, prepare the surface using an alternative method, such as with a scrubbing-action or percussion-action cleaning machine. Once the metal surfaces have been prepared as specified, apply Primer EP 100W two-component, water based epoxy primer with a roller, brush or by airless spray, or, alternatively, Primer EP Rustop, two component epoxy primer for metal surfaces. Before applying Purtop Easy DW, pay particular attention to joints between horizontal and vertical surfaces, which must be rounded off using fillets.
Preparation of the product
Purtop Easy DW is a two-component product: mix the entire content of component B in the container of component A for at least three minutes until they are thoroughly blended.
Application of the product
After carefully preparing and priming the substrate, apply Purtop Easy DW with a roller or trowel. The temperature of the substrate must be at least 3°C above dew-point and the level of residual moisture must be no higher than 4%. Apply at least two even coats of Purtop Easy DW to form a total thickness of around 2 mm. If application of Purtop Easy DW is interrupted and then taken up again after the maximum recoat time (24 hours), apply a coat of Primer R30 and form an overlap at least 30 cm wide. Wait at least 10 days after applying the second coat of Purtop Easy DW before getting the storage tank ready for use.
If a ceramic covering needs to be bonded to Purtop Easy DW, you can use Ultrabond Eco PU 2K polyurethane adhesive, or Kerapoxy or Kerapoxy Adhesive epoxy adhesives.
