Owatrol RA85 Aluminium Paint is a highly flexible, chemically resistant paint, suited for application to exhaust pipes, storage tanks, and marine applications. Originally developed for the shipping industry.

Owatrol RA85 Aluminium Paint is a high gloss, paint coating, offering an aluminium finish which will not flake or peel when exposed to temperatures of up to 175°C. With its high abrasion resistance, excellent adhesion and ability to penetrate the substrate, it has all the properties required for a long life.

Best Uses

Owatrol RA85 Aluminium Paint is a highly flexible product as well as highly reflective and chemically resistant, making it highly suited for application to exhaust pipes, storage tanks, and a variety of marine applications. Owatrol RA85 Aluminium Paint can be used internally or externally offering a high level of corrosion resistance. Originally developed for the shipping industry RA.85 became a favourite cargo hold coating; carrying approval for the carriage of grain.

Application

Remove all scale; loose and flaking rust and old paint back to a sound surface and edge. Feather in any sharp edges. Surfaces exposed to chemicals (acids, alkalis or salt deposits) should be washed using copious amounts of water or steam cleaned. Severely contaminated surfaces should be cleaned using an appropriate solvent. Abrade new wood surfaces with 120 grit paper to open the woods pores and dust off. Wash with denatured alcohol (methylated spirits) to remove any sanding residue. Oily, resinous and greasy woods should be thoroughly degreased with denatured alcohol (methylated spirits), acetone or similar solvent based product NOT White Spirit.

Stir can well before and during use. Do not thin.

METAL SURFACES

New surfaces exc’ aluminium surfaces
Prime new metal and galvanised surfaces with 1 coat of Owatrol Oil or Owatrol AP60 and allow to dry 24 hours. Apply 1 or 2 coats of Owatrol RA85. For new metal surfaces subject to aggressive climatic conditions apply 2 coats.

New aluminium surfaces
Apply 2 coats of Owatrol RA85 allowing drying time between coats. Clean, lightly rusted or new unpainted rusty steel. Apply 2 coats of Owatrol RA85 allowing drying time between coats.

Old severely rusted surfaces
Apply wet on wet applications of Owatrol Oil until rust is fully saturated and allow to dry. Saturation is indicated by a uniform glossy appearance to the surface when Owatrol Oil is dry. Apply 2 coats of Owatrol RA85 allowing drying time between coats.

Previously coated surfaces
Spot prime all exposed metal with Owatrol Oil or Owatrol AP60 depending on severity of rust and allow to dry. Apply Owatrol RA85 to primed areas to bring level with existing finish, allowing drying time between coats. Apply 2 coats of Owatrol RA85 over entire area; allowing drying time between coats.

WOODEN SURFACES

New surfaces
Apply 2 coats of RA.85 ; allowing drying time between coats. Damaged, soft, punky or porous wood surfaces. Prime with Owatrol Oil and allow to dry. Apply 2 coats of Owatrol RA85 ; allowing drying time between coats.

Previously coated surfaces
Spot prime all exposed surfaces with Owatrol Oil or Owatrol AP60 depending on condition and porosity of the wood, allow to dry. Apply Owatrol RA85 to primed areas to bring level with existing finish, allowing drying time between coats. Apply 2 coats of Owatrol RA85 over entire area; allowing drying time between coats.

Surface and Environment

Owatrol RA85 Aluminium Paint is ideal for application to most metallic surfaces including, grates, fences, structural steelwork, roofing, cisterns, storage tanks, trailers, machinery, pumps and plumbing, found internally and externally. This product can be applied to horizontal and vertical surfaces to produce a protective and highly decorative aluminium finish. Owatrol RA85 Aluminium Paint can be used in aggressive climatic conditions and works well to withstand weathering and chemical attack.
