Owatrol GLV Marine Aluminium Paint
Owatrol GLV Marine Aluminium Paint is a flexible anti-corrosive high gloss marine paint suitable for ferrous and non ferrous metals suitable for aggressive climates.
Best Uses
Owatrol GLV has excellent abrasion resistance, withstands chemical attack and is ideal in aggressive climatic conditions where a high resistant finish is necessary. Originally developed for the shipping industry Owatrol GLV became a favourite cargo hold coating; carrying approval for the carriage of grain. It can withstand temperatures up to 175°C once cured and offers excellent light and heat reflecting properties.
Perfect for coating aluminium, steel and galvanised surfaces above the waterline, protecting already rusted tanks and machinery, resisting damage in aggressive climatic conditions, resisting weathering effects on pipes and pumps, and providing long lasting protection against corrosion for new steelwork.

Application
Surface must be clean, properly prepared and free from any sanding residue before applying Owatrol GLV.
New surfaces exc Aluminium:
- Clean surface with a non-oxidising solvent e.g. White Spirit, Acetone.
- Sand with 60-120 grit abrasive or sandblast. Fibreglass 180-220 grit.
- Sand inaccessible areas with a liquid/chemical sander. Use diluted Owatrol Owayell
- Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry.
- Apply a rust inhibiting primer - Marine Oil (Owatrol Oil), Owatrol CIP to avoid a reaction between the aluminium pigment and metal surface.
New Aluminium surfaces
- Clean surface with a non-oxidising solvent e.g. White Spirit, Acetone.
- Sand with 60-120 grit abrasive that is compatible with aluminium or sandblast.
- Sand inaccessible areas with a liquid/chemical sander. Use diluted Owatrol Owayell
- Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry.
- Apply 1 coat of Owatrol GLV as the primer, follow with finish coats.
Oxidised surfaces
- Owatrol GLV uses solid, stable rust as pigment and for optimum adhesion.
- Remove loose and flaking rust.
- Clean surface with a non-oxidising solvent e.g. White Spirit, Acetone
- Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry.
- Apply Owatrol GLV
