Sika Bonding Primer
Sika Liquid Plastics Bonding Primer is an adhesion primer for use on concrete, masonry, tiles, insulation foams, bituminous surfaces, plaster, cementitious renders, screeds and mortars.
Sika Liquid Plastics Bonding Primer is a two component, water-based, rapid curing product, specifically developed to create a high adhesion coating ready for an overcoat with Sika Liquid Plastics Roofing/Balcony Systems or Sika Hygiene Finishers.
Best Uses
Sika Bonding Primer is a 2-part, water-based multipurpose epoxy resin primer. It consolidates substrates and improves the adhesion for use with Sika Liquid Applied Roofing Membranes and Balcony Waterproofing Systems.
Sika Liquid Plastics Bonding Primer is a versatile product that can be used with Sika Liquid Plastics Roofing Systems, Balcony Waterproofing Systems, Hygiene Coatings and External Wall Coatings. This high performance product is capable of withstanding adverse weathering in external conditions, as well as providing a formidable bond for finishing products to adhere to.
- Fast curing increases productivity and saves time
- Consolidates dusty or friable substrates providing enhanced adhesion
- Reduces the risk of outgassing from susceptible substrates
- Overcoating possible after 1–2 hours
- Water-based
- Good penetrating ability into porous substrates
- Reduces the absorbency of the substrate
- Easy application
- Applied by brush, roller or airless spray
Sika Bonding Primer can be used on the following substrates: Bitumen sheet membranes, Bituminous coatings, Brick masonry, Cementitious renders, Concrete, Cementitious screeds, glazed ceramic tiles, Insulation foams, Plaster, Unglazed ceramic tiles. Suitable for interior and exterior applications.
Application
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
Substrates must be free of standing water (no puddles) clean and free of all contaminants such as dirt, oil, grease, coatings, laitance, surface treatments and loose friable material. New concrete must be cured for at least 10 days. Prepare substrates using grinding equipment, high pressure power washer, manual or mechanical wire brushes. Damaged, weak or loose substrates must be removed and repaired with compatible materials. To confirm adequate surface preparation and Product adhesion, carry out a small trial before full application, together with adhesion tests as required.
MIXING
Over mixing must be avoided to minimise air entrainment. Use an electric single or double paddle mixer (300–400 rpm) with a spiral paddle for mixing. Mix full units only.
APPLICATION
Strictly follow installation procedures as defined in method statements, application manuals and working instructions, which must always be adjusted to the actual site conditions.
Fleeced roller / brush application
- Confirm product application conditions: substrate moisture content, substrate, air and product temperatures, relative humidity and dew point.
- Pour the mixed Product onto the surface.
- Apply the Product evenly over the surface with a short-piled roller or brush. The consumption is specified in the Application Information.
- Back roll the surface in two directions at right angles with a short-piled roller.
- The primer must be continuous and pore free.
Airless spray application
- Confirm product application conditions: substrate moisture content, substrate, air and product temperatures, relative humidity and dew point.
- Spray apply the product in a continuous cross-spray operation and at a speed to achieve a consistent thickness and the required surface finish. The consumption is specified in the Application Information.
- The primer must be continuous and pore free.
