Tikkurila Patio Paving stain is a water-based, tintable paving stain for driveways, garden concrete stones and slabs (for use on industrially dyed or uncoloured patios).
Suitable for application with a brush, roller, or spray. We recommend spray application for the best absorption and the most efficient application on large surfaces (finished off with a roller or brush, if needed, to ensure that the product penetrates the substrate pores).
Available in 10 earth-tone shades. Select a colour that closely resembles the stones to be treated. Undyed concrete grey paving stones, on the other hand, can be stained to a completely different colour while retaining their original appearance.
Note: Tikkurila Patio Paving Stain is not recommended for new garden stones or non-absorbing substrates like wash concrete or natural stone.
Pretreatment
Clean surfaces from dirt, dust, moss and lichen. Wash with pressure washer and use Tikkurila Tehopesu Super Clean according to instructions. If the garden stones or slabs are relatively new, use turbo nozzle or at least sufficient pressure to ensure the absorbency of the surface.
Application
Stir the stain well before and during use. Treat the surfaces evenly and without interruption to avoid overlapping. Make sure that the product is absorbed evenly and thoroughly into the substrate. Avoid applying a thick and paint-like coat. Apply the stain with a brush, roller or backpack sprayer. When backpack sprayer is used, the treatment is finalized with a roller or brush, if needed, to ensure that the product penetrates into the pores of the substrate.
Paving stones and slabs are exposed to continuous weathering, and they may be subject to severe mechanical stress. Therefore, they might also need maintenance treatment almost every year.
Always do a trial application to find out the most suitable colour, application method, amount of thinner and number of coats for the paving stones to be
treated.
Undyed (concrete) garden stones and slabs:
Apply 1-2 coats of the stain depending on the absorbency of the substrate and desired end result. Normally two coats give the best end result. The stain can be thinned with max. 50% water, if required.
Dyed garden stones and slabs:
Choose a shade close to the colour of the stones to be treated. Apply 1-2 coats of the stain depending on the absorbency of the substrate and desired end result. Normally one coat is enough. The stain can be thinned with max. 50% water, if required. See the product data sheet for detailed instructions and technical data.
