Mapei Malech Primer
Mapei Malech is an acrylic resin undercoat in water dispersion to even out the absorption of substrates before applying other products.
Best Uses
Mapei Malech is used as a primer for wall surfaces in general (e.g. concrete or repairs with cement mortars) before applying a coloured finishing coat of Elastocolor range product and Quarzolite range product, as a regulator of the substrate absorption and as an adhesion catalyst.
Mapei Malech can also be used in the Aquaflex System cycle for permanent encapsulation of asbestos as a primer for covering layers of Aquaflex.
- As a primer on well cured new or old renders as long as they are not damaged, before applying a coloured finishing coat of Elastocolor or Quarzolite range product.
- As a primer over old paint, even if slightly chalky, before applying Elastocolor, Quarzolite or Colorite coloured finishing coat.
- As a primer on surfaces that need to be treated in enclosed or poorly ventilated environments because Malech is odourless, before applying Elastocolor or Elastocolor Rasante.
Application
Preparation of the substrate
New surfaces that need to be treated or small repairs with repair mortars must be cured, perfectly clean, sound and dry. Remove from the surface all traces of oil or grease and any loose material that is not perfectly bonded. Seal any cracks and repair deteriorated surfaces.
Seal any porous sections and level any uneven parts of the substrate.
Preparation of the product
Interior application: dilute Malech with water at a variable rate depending on the type of substrate. As a general rule, it is suggested a dilution Malech / water in a ratio of 1/1 for more absorbent substrates and 1/2 for less absorbent substrates in order to avoid the forming of a glassy film on the wall surface.
Exterior application: Malech is used as it is in case of porous and very absorbent substrates. In case of other types of substrate, dilute Malech with up to 50% of water according to the absorbency, in order to avoid the forming of a glassy film on the wall surface.
Application of the product
Mix Malech before use and apply it with a brush, roller or spray. Protect from pouring rain for at least 12 hours. Malech can be painted after 12 - 24 hours depending on the environmental conditions.
Notes
- Mapei Malech is ready for use but can be diluted 30-50% of water for surfaces with low absorbency
